For a guy who has lived all over the world, Buddy Bass believes it's quite normal to be living, working and even graduating college from a place here in Montgomery County, Texas.
Bass, who is an University of Houston-Downtown student at the Lone Star College-University Center, will graduate in December with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.
He has lived in places such as Africa and Indonesia, to name a couple, and he is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He attended high school at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas prior to his first year at LSC-Montgomery. He stayed at the college the first time for only one year, then it was off to the Navy for four years where he served on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, stationed in Seattle.
He came back and started his second college career at LSC-Montgomery. Once Bass completed his two-year track, he was able to move to the University of Houston-Downtown and the LSC-University Center.
He said he has enjoyed the convenience of the LSC-University Center.
"I didn't have to take any of my senior classes at University of Houston-Downtown," he said. "It's a big advantage because I don't have to drive all the way downtown.
"I live in Montgomery, Texas and work right here at The Woodlands mall," he said.
He now also continues to serve the Naval Reserves with a weekend of duty every month. In addition, he is a huge sports fan, he said, and enjoys the hometown professional teams - the Astros, Rockets and the ... Dallas Cowboys, not the Houston Texans.
"I've always been a Dallas Cowboys fanatic," he said.
Bass says that once he graduates in December, he plans to first focus his job search in the government sector. From there, he may consider additional education at some point.
Meanwhile, he'll focus on completing his degree in December and keeping up with the Cowboys.
